There’s understandably a lot of discussion about the scale, energy requirements and environmental impact of new developments. But it’s also important that we distinguish between different types and scales of data centre, and have an informed conversation about the role this infrastructure already plays in our everyday digital lives.

Scotland has a real opportunity here, particularly given its renewable energy resources, but growth needs to be accompanied by transparency, responsible development and meaningful engagement with local communities.
